Edmonton Oilers hockey club announced that they have sent forward Travis Ewanyk back to the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL.
The St. Albert, Alberta native had 16 goals and 27 points last season for the Oil Kings but had no points in Edmonton`s WHL Playoff run as they were swept in the first round of the 2011 playoffs.
The 18-year old did not appear in any preseason games with the Oilers this year after being diagnosed with an injury. In fact, Ewanyk didn’t get the opportunity to dress for the Oilers in the YoungStars tournament in Penticton after it was discovered he would require surgery. The St. Albert, AB. native is expected to be out of the lineup four-to-five months.
The six-foot-one, 189-pound Ewanyk was drafted 74th overall by the Oilers in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He was originally the Oil Kings 48th overall pick in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
The Oilers also returned LW David Czerwonka to the Kootenay Ice of the WHL.
