From Aaron Vickers, Future Considerations:

A fabricated report regarding Taylor Hall’s push to wear No. 4 had the Edmonton Oilers rookie laughing off the notion.

According to a blog published on CBC.ca, Hall and his family made a power push to wear Kevin Lowe’s number after the Oilers made him the first overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

“Back home we don’t even have paint on the walls of our house, just a whole bunch of 4s,” Hall jokingly told the Edmonton Sun.

Mark Seidel, the chief scout for North American Central Scouting, posted a blog on CBC lambasting the former two-time Memorial Cup MVP’s quest to don his Windsor Spitfires number.

“Team Hall’s approach to securing the No. 4 sweater has bothered a lot of people both inside and outside the Edmonton Oilers’ organization,” Seidel wrote. “We all assumed that Hall wouldn’t dare raise the issue of taking Lowe’s famous number. We were wrong and once it became apparent that this was the Team Hall plan, a lot of people in the game were outraged.”

Seidel didn’t mention any sources, anonymous or otherwise, in his story.

But what did irk Hall was the fact his family was brought into the farce.

“I don’t care what it says about me, because I can take that, it’s more my family because they’re not used to that stuff,” said the 19-year-old who has three goals and six points in 11 games this season. “When they say stuff about my dad, that’s kind of hard to take.”

“I’m not worried about me, I can take this stuff because I know what happened, but it’s tough when they say things like Team Hall,” he added.

CBC has since removed the post from its website and no longer lists Seidel as one of its bloggers. Seidel has also offered a direct apology to the Edmonton Oilers, stating, “I am fully confident that these events did not happen as I layed (sic) them out in the article.”
