From Aaron Vickers:

Alex Stalock’s season has come to an end.

The Worchester Sharks goaltender underwent surgery to repair a laceration to his left leg after being stepped on by a Manchester Monarch skate nearly two weeks ago.

“He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season,” Sharks executive vice president and general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. “There is no immediate timetable for Alex to resume skating as our immediate focus will be on monitoring Alex as he recovers and begins his rehabilitation.”

The surgery has been called a success, but also puts into question the future of the San Jose Sharks’ fourth round pick in 2005.

“Alex has always been a fierce competitor and we anticipate he will attack this setback in the same manner,” Wilson said.

Stalock has one NHL appearance in his two-year professional career, stopping all nine shots en route to a victory over the Phoenix Coyotes just three days prior to the injury.

In 41 games this season in the AHL, Stalock is 19-17-4 with a 2.63 goals against average and .907 save percentage. Last season, the South St. Paul, Minn. native set an AHL rookie record with 39 wins and was an AHL All-Star.

Stalock, a product of the University of Minnesota-Duluth, was named NCAA First Team All-American in 2009.
