All hail Nail!

With a goal and a pair of assists in the Sarnia Sting’s final game of the season against the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds, phenom Nail Yakupov became the first Ontario Hockey League rookie since the duo of Sam Gagner and Patrick Kane of the London Knights to eclipse the 100-point plateau.

Yakupov settled up with 49 goals and 101 points and will finish fourth in OHL scoring. The native of Nizhnekamsk isn’t eligible to be drafted until 2012, where he is currently projected to be a top-5 selection.

In his first season of North American hockey, the five-foot-10, 170-pound right winger was held scoreless in just 13 of 65 games this year and his longest point drought was just three games.

Yakupov, who was selected second overall by Sarnia in the 2010 CHL Import Draft, was named the OHL rookie of the month in November and February.
