From Aaron Vickers:

Jack Campbell is set for Slovakia.

The Windsor Spitfires netminder, who was eliminated from the Ontario Hockey League playoffs, is set to join Team USA’s entry at the World Championship in Slovakia, which gets underway tomorrow.

Campbell, whose Spitfires were dumped in five games by the Owen Sound Attack, struggled in his first season with Windsor. The Port Huron, MI. native managed a 24-14-4 record with a 3.80 goals against average and .884 save percentage. In 18 postseason games, Campbell was 9-6-3, allowing 3.74 goals per game.

And while Campbell struggled in his debut season in the OHL, he’s shined on the international stage.

The 19-year-old has been golden for the United States in his young international career. Literally. Campbell helped the Americans to a gold medal at the World Under-18 Championship in 2009, where he was also named the tournament’s top goaltender. Months later, Campbell backstopped the Americans to a gold medal finish at the 2010 World Junior Championship in Saskatoon, ending Canada’s reign of five consecutive medals.

While he was unable to help the Americans repeat at the 2011 World Junior Championship, Campbell helped the US to a bronze and was named the tournament’s top goaltender.

Campbell, drafted 11th overall in 201 by the Dallas Stars, is expected to serve as the third-string goaltender to St. Louis Blues goaltender Ty Conklin and Al Montoya of the New York Islanders.
