From Aaron Vickers:

The Anaheim Ducks are looking to add a little Finnish to their blueline.

According to the OC Register,  Ducks general manager Bob Murray is hoping to ink prospect Sami Vatanen, selected in the fourth round, 106th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Negotiations are ongoing between Murray and the five-foot-nine and 163-pound Vatanen, who had 11 goals and 31 points in 52 games with Jyp of the Finnish Elite League. He also led the league in plus/minus with a +30 mark.

The native of Jyvaskyla is widely regarded as Anaheim’s top defensive prospect.

No stranger to the international stage, Vatanen has been a familiar face to the Finnish program, representing his country at the World Under-17 and Under-18 championships. In 2010, Vatanen represented Finland at both the World Junior Championship in Saskatchewan and the World Championship in Germany. He was expected to suit up at the 2011 World Championship but an injury with Jyp left him unable to compete.

Vatanen also holds the distinction of being the highest Finnish player in KHL, selected 2nd overall in the 2010 KHL Junior Draft by HC Metallurg Novokuznetsk.
