From Aaron Vickers:

The Montreal Canadiens have selected Saint John Sea Dogs defenseman Nathan Beaulieu 17th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

There isn’t anything that Beaulieu doesn’t excel at. While he’s not the flashiest of defensemen available at the top-end of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Beaulieu could be the steadiest.

The Saint John Sea Dogs defenseman has a nice two-way game that is achieved through his mobility and ability to transition between offensive in defense. Also helping his play is his vision and ability to make quality outlet passes. The Strathroy, ON. native doesn’t shy away from the physical stuff either, and is willing to drop the gloves if need be.

On the offense, Beaulieu is able to find open lanes for getting passes through to his teammates or in getting pucks to the net. At times he can be overly aggressive but Beaulieu has made great strides in improving that area of his game.
