From Aaron Vickers:

The Phoenix Coyotes have selected US NTDP defenseman Connor Murphy with the 20th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Murphy, the son of former NHLer Gord Murphy, plays a well rounded two-way game with solid skating ability and mobility. Where he shines is his blend of size at six-foot-three and smarts. Murphy uses his active stick and size to quickly separate the puck from the opposition and can read the play well. His wingspan forces opposing forwards to stick to the outside.

Offensively, Murphy is an attractive package as well. He isn’t shy to jump into the play, when safe to do so, and has a good, accurate shot from the point.

What he’ll look to improve upon is his poise when being pressured while in possession of the puck. That, along with avoiding injury will be Murphy’s motivation to improve next season.
