College hockey has lost another player to the Canadian Hockey League.

Reid Boucher, who has another year of high school, has de-committed to the Michigan State Spartans in favour of the Ontario Hockey League. The leading goal scorer for the gold medal winning United States at the World Under-18 Championship is expected to join the Sarnia Sting.

The native of Grand Ledge, MI. was expected to head to the United States Hockey League before joining Michigan State in 2012/13. Continue reading



Avs ink top two from 2011

The Colorado Avalanche made a big splash on June 25th after selecting both Gabriel Landeskog and Duncan Siemens in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The club made more waves by signing the duo to entry level deals Thursday.

“We are pleased to have both Gabriel and Duncan under contract,” Colorado general manager and executive V.P. Greg Sherman said in a team released statement. “We look forward to them participating in their first training camp this fall.”

Regarded as the most NHL-ready player in the draft, the six-foot-one, 205-pound Landeskog is expected to compete for a roster spot on the Avalanche this season. The left winger, selected second overall, scored 36 goals and 66 points in 53 games last season with the Kitchener Rangers. Continue reading



Penguins pushing for 2012 draft

The excitement has already began to build for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

But while scouts and fans alike have already began the debate between who should go first overall next June, the NHL has yet to set a venue.

The city of Pittsburgh and the new Consol Energy Center is a strong candidate and has been rumoured as the expected destination for the 2012 draft. Continue reading



Gibson de-committs to Michigan

For the second time in as many years, the University of Michigan has lost a premier netminder.

A season after losing Jack Campbell to the Windsor Spitfires, Michigan has lost Anaheim Ducks prospect John Gibson.

The six-foot-three, 205-pound goaltender selected 39th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft will join the Kitchener Rangers.

“John Gibson has decided not to attend the University of Michigan or to play college hockey,” Michigan head coach Red Berenson said in a school press release.

A member of the United States National Team Development Program, Gibson went 9-4-3 with a 2.38 goals against average and .926 save percentage in USHL action. Internationally, Gibson helped Team USA to gold at the 2011 World U-18 Championship, earning the directorate award as the tournament’s top goaltender. Continue reading



Coyotes’ Connor to Sarnia Sting

Connor Murphy is now a member of the Sarnia Sting.

The United States’ National Team Development Program standout surprised many by forgoing his college commitment in favour of the Ontario Hockey League. Murphy had committed to Miami University in February of 2010.

In an injury plagued nine games with the NTDP last season, Murphy had three goals and four points in nine games. He added three goals in six games to help Team USA to a gold medal performance at the 2011 World Under-18 Championship, including the game-winning overtime goal against Sweden in the gold medal game. Oleksiak leaves Northeastern for OHL
