From Aaron Vickers:

It took the Edmonton Oilers minutes to announce their selection of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

It only took days later to sign him.

Oilers’ general manager Steve Tambellini announced Saturday the signing of the Red Deer Rebels standout, a week and a day after making him the first overall pick in the 2011 draft.

Nugent-Hopkins’ received the rookie maximum. He will earn $925,000 in each of the three years, with bonuses that can net him $3,775,000.

His first opportunity to wear the blue and orange has already come. Nugent-Hopkins is currently participating in Edmonton’s development camp.
