From Aaron Vickers:

Nathan MacKinnon is now a Moosehead.

The Cole Harbour, NS. native was dealt to Halifax by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in exchange for players Carl Gélinas and Francis Turbide as well as Halifax’s 2012 and 2013 first round picks.

The Drakkar also received Quebec Remparts’ first selection in 2013 as part of the deal.

The Mooseheads originally acquired the pick after dealing Adam Erne to Quebec in exchange for a second round pick in 2012 and first round picks in 2013 and 2014.

Despite being the first overall pick in June’s QMJHL Entry Draft, MacKinnon didn’t attend the event. Instead, MacKinnon skated in a USHL camp on the day of the draft. The 16-year-old MacKinnon, who played at Shattock St Mary’s last year, considering going the NCAA route. When drafted by Baie-Comeau, MacKinnon indicated he would not report to the club.

With the trade, MacKinnon will report to Halfiax.

He is eligible for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
