From Aaron Vickers:

He’s been in camp in Calgary with the WHL’s Hitmen.

He’s skated in Traverse City alongside his fellow Carolina Hurricanes prospects.

But there is still no guarantee Swedish import Victor Rask will play hockey in North America for the upcoming season.

“I haven’t decided yet,” Rask told Mike Morreale of NHL.com. “I like to play in North America, but have to wait and see what happens. Maybe I will, because it’s good hockey here.”

Rask, who played with Leksand last season, has a plethora of options when it comes to hockey in North America. He has an opportunity, albeit slim, to make the Carolina Hurricanes out of training camp. More likely, Rask will either play for the Hitmen or the Charlotte Checkers, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Hurricanes.

Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford told the Raleigh News-Observer he wanted to see the third overall pick in the CHL Import Draft rack up big minutes in North America in August.

“Our understanding is he will play in North America and that he wants to,” Rutherford said. “It’s very important to get him to a place where he plays a lot of minutes. We’d like to see him somewhere playing more than 20 minutes a game.”

Where that will happens is up to Rask.
