Namestnikov re-uKnighted by Lightning

The Tampa Lightning announced that Vladislav Namestnikov has been assigned to the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League Thursday.

Namestnikov was Tampa’s first round pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft in Minnesota. He was selected 27th overall by the Lightning and was also chosen 20th overall in the 2010 CHL Import Draft by London. Continue reading

Blackhawks Danault, McNeill returned to junior

The Chicago Blackhawks announced that forward Phillip Danault has been returned to the Victoriaville Tigers of the QMJHL Wednesday.

Danault was selected 26th overall in June.

Danault, the teams first round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, was selected ninth overall in the 2009 QMJHL Entry Draft by Victoriaville.

The 18-year-old Victoriaville, QC. native scored 23 goals and recorded 67 points in 64 games last season for the Tigres. He also captained the team to the quarter-finals in last year’s QMJHL playoffs before being eliminated in four games to the eventual Presidents Cup and Memorial Cup champion Saint John Sea Dogs. Couturier signs contract with Flyers

Just days after defenseman Ryan Murphy signed a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes, another member of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft class has followed suit.

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed centre Sean Couturier, the club’s eighth overall pick from June.

The six-foot-four, 191-pound forward is regarded as one of the most NHL-ready prospects from the 2011 draft. Continue reading

Carolina’s Rask returned to Hitmen

The Carolina Hurricanes announced Wednesday that Victor Rask has been returned to the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL.

Rask, the club’s second round pick from the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, was Calgary’s first pick, third overall in the CHL’s Import Draft.

The six-foot-one, 192-pound Swedish centre  scored five goals and earned 11 points while playing in 37 games with Leksand of Sweden’s second professional division last season.

He also helped Sweden win silver at the 2011 World Under-18 Championship, scoring twice and adding three assists. Continue reading
