From Aaron Vickers:

Jacob Trouba will be the biggest attraction for the US National Team Development Program this season.

Next season, he could become the Kitchener Rangers main event.

The Rochester, MI. native has yet to commit to an NCAA program and admitted he hasn’t ruled out playing in the Ontario Hockey League next season. Continue reading

From Aaron Vickers:

According to the Chinese calendar, 2012 is the year of the dragon.

But when it’s all said and done, it could become the year of the defenseman.

The 2012 NHL Entry Draft appears, at least at this stage, to be huge on the back end. Though there are an impressive 14 defensemen ranked in the first round of Future Considerations’ preliminary ranking for the draft, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that many more go in the first 30 picks. From Dan Stewart:

With the 2011 draft in the books, the focus for many amateur scouts now turns to the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Much like them, Future Considerations is also turning its attention to 2012.

And there are names already turning heads.

The Sarnia Sting’s electric tandem are just two of the talented prospects making names for themselves a year or two before they are eligible for the NHL Entry Draft. Both Nail Yakupov and Alex Galchenyuk are set to battle each other for the 2012 throne, while another Russian – Mikhail Grigorenko – will toss his hat into the battle as well. Continue reading

From Aaron Vickers:

The Canadian Hockey League’s Import Draft is two days away.

But the London Knights have already kickstarted it.

Just two days prior to the Import Draft, the Knights dealt Reid McNeill, their first round Import Draft pick, Mississauga’s 2nd round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Draft and their own 3rd in 2013 to the Barrie Colts in exchange for the first overall selection in Wednesday’s selection process. 2012 draft impacting picks in Minnesota?

From Aaron Vickers:

The 2012 NHL Entry Draft is 370 days away.

But it’s impact can be felt in as little as 11.

With 14 defenseman currently ranked in the first round for the 2012 draft and 24 slotted in the first 60 picks, NHL teams may look beyond 2011 to bolster their blueline. With just nine defenseman with first round potential in 2011, organizations outside of the range of the likes of Adam Larsson and Dougie Hamilton may wait for the opportunity to select Ryan Murray, Nick Ebert, Jacob Truba, Griffin Reinhart or about a dozen other high profile defenseman available in a year’s time. From Aaron Vickers:

He’s not the biggest dog in the fight.

But he may still bark just loud enough to wake the neighbours.

Spencer Abraham stands at just five-foot-11, but the Brampton Battalion defenseman made noise in his rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League. The 18-year-old finished with 31 points in 67 games, third in rookie scoring among defensemen in the OHL behind Nick Ebert and Ryan Sproul.

Slotted 168th overall in Future Considerations’ final rankings for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, it’s Abraham’s offensive prowess that could make the Campbellville, ON. native a jumper on draft day. Continue reading
