From Aaron Vickers:

The Canadian Hockey League’s Import Draft is two days away.

But the London Knights have already kickstarted it.

Just two days prior to the Import Draft, the Knights dealt Reid McNeill, their first round Import Draft pick, Mississauga’s 2nd round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Draft and their own 3rd in 2013 to the Barrie Colts in exchange for the first overall selection in Wednesday’s selection process. From Aaron Vickers:

Most prospects skating at the World Under-18 Championship were hoping to solidify their status in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

But not all.

Ryan Murray and Russian teammates Nail Yakupov and Mikhail Grigorenko were battling to become the favourite heading into the 2011/12 season. Those high-end prospects will be counted on to lead their respective squads and in reality only a bad showing could drastically affect their draft rankings.

The 2011 tournament, taking place in Crimmitschau and Dresden, Germany from April 14 though the 24, has the potential to also help push the stocks of some lesser known prospects up the draft lists of NHL organizations with some breakout preformances. Those prospects will be the key spotlight of this U18 preview post as we look to find those who have the ability to either elevate their draft stock or send it plummeting.  Continue reading

American draft eligibles shine at U18 Five Nations

From Dan Stewart:

Its feeling a lot like tournament season.

And the season has been kicked off by the Under-18 Five Nations Tournament in the Czech Republic. The tournament is a tune-up for draft prospects to show their wares before the IIHF World U18 Championships in April.

Many prospects have used this five day event to improve their draft status in the past and the players participating this year were looking to do the same.

The 2011 round robin tournament attended heavily by scouts and agents matched five strong hockey nations against one another where the best record after the four games is declared the champion. Continue reading
