From Aaron Vickers:

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Ryan Murphy, their first pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford announced the club signed Murphy, selected 12th overall in June.

The five-foot-11, 176-pound blueliner finished second in scoring among defensemen in the Ontario Hockey League with 26 goals and 79 points in 63 games. The left winger, selected second overall, scored 36 goals and 66 points in 53 games last season with the Kitchener Rangers. Continue reading
