Nugent-Hopkins inks deal with Oilers

It took the Edmonton Oilers minutes to announce their selection of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

It only took days later to sign him.

Oilers’ general manager Steve Tambellini announced Saturday the signing of the Red Deer Rebels standout, a week and a day after making him the first overall pick in the 2011 draft. Continue reading

As expected, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins didn’t have to wait too long to hear his name called on draft day.

In fact, he didn’t have to wait at all. As expected, the Edmonton Oilers made Nugent-Hopkins the first pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Oilers take RNH 1st overall in 2011 NHL Entry Draft

The Edmonton Oilers have selected Red Deer Rebels first overall to kickstart the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

This marks the second consecutive year the Oilers have drafted first, selecting Taylor Hall with the opening pick in 2010.

Nugent-Hopkins possesses advanced skating and can generate speed with his quick feet in just a few explosive strides. The Burnaby, BC. native has ultra soft hands that are just a part of his game-breaking arsenal. He can take the puck to the net or with his quick release, wire a shot from the outside or draw a defender to him before dishing a seeing-eye pass to an open teammate. Continue reading

But he may just be the biggest name.

Canada unveils development camp roster

But for Hockey Canada, the journey starts now.

Canada unveiled a roster of four goaltenders, 16 defensemen and 26 forwards for its summer development camp, the first official grouping in identifying and assembling its potential roster for the tournament in Edmonton and Calgary in December. Continue reading

According to the Twitterverse, Saint John Sea Dogs standout wont go over or under, but exactly on three to the Florida Panthers.

Second only to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in Future Considerations’ final ranking for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Huberdeau put together an exceptional year that saw him outside of the first round in September.
