Home is where the heart is.

For Jamie Oleksiak, Canada is home.

The six-foot-seven, 240-pound defenseman with both Canadian and American citizenship made that clear when he announced his intentions to skate in Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Development Camp a week ago.

The Toronto, ON. native made headlines when it was rumoured he would accept an invitation from Hockey Canada, declining USA Hockey’s offer in the process.

While he didn’t take the decision lightly, Oleksiak explained why his heart was in representing Canada. Continue reading

Leafs pick Percy 25th in 2011 NHL Entry Draft

The Toronto Maple Leafs have picked Stuart Percy with their 25th overall selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The steady, consistent Mississauga Major isn’t overly offensive, but does transition the play from defense to offense well and makes quick breakout passes to his forwards.

Where Percy shines is in his defensive play. The six-foot-one, 185-pound Percy uses strong positioning, a quick stick and a willingness to engage physically on the opposition to defend effectively. Using a good ability to read how a play develops also aids Percy in defending his own end. Continue reading



Draft eligibles bring it at Top Prospects Game

One of the most anticipated events on any NHL scouts schedule has to be the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game where it welcomes a who’s who of NHL GM’s, directors of player personnel and scouts all congregated in one place for one game which features a group of mostly future first and second round draft picks in a ‘non’ all-star game type affair. FC releases preliminary list for 2011 NHL Entry Draft

With the QMJHL season already underway and the rest of the hockey world ready to follow suit, the Taylor vs. Tyler debate of yesteryear has been put on the back burner as their careers continue to play out.

Hall and Seguin can now give way this year’s three-way dance involving Dummondville’s Sean Couturier, Swede Adam Larsson and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Red Deer Rebels.

Which will be called to the stage first on draft day? Can someone outside of the ‘big three’ make noise at the top of the list?
