Trouba commits to Michigan

Jacob Trouba can be described as many things. He can add Wolverine to that list.

The 2012 draft eligible defenseman took to twitter to announce he has committed to the University of Michigan hockey program headed by Red Berenson.

’12 eligibles steal show at R&D camp

After a few days at the rink, the NHL’s Research and Development camp served as an excellent opportunity at a first hand look at quite a few of the top prospects for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft before the season gets underway.

And what a look!

Although he started off a bit slowly, I was really impressed with how Red Deer Rebels defenseman Matt Dumba turned it up towards the end of the first day. One, he really stepped up his game and delivered some strong two-way play. I thought his instincts with the puck were great and on the other end, didn’t hesitate to catch a few forwards with his head down. He reminds me a lot of P.K. Subban with a higher upside. Trouba’s hockey path undecided

Jacob Trouba will be the biggest attraction for the US National Team Development Program this season.

Next season, he could become the Kitchener Rangers main event.

The Rochester, MI. native has yet to commit to an NCAA program and admitted he hasn’t ruled out playing in the Ontario Hockey League next season. Continue reading



Blueliners excited about defense draft depth

According to the Chinese calendar, 2012 is the year of the dragon.

But when it’s all said and done, it could become the year of the defenseman.

The 2012 NHL Entry Draft appears, at least at this stage, to be huge on the back end. Though there are an impressive 14 defensemen ranked in the first round of Future Considerations’ preliminary ranking for the draft, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that many more go in the first 30 picks.
